Andrew Ainslie

I am a social anthropologist with research interests in the global food system, particularly in relation to the beef value chains and its myriad impacts on the economy, institutions, the environment and human well-being. My research explores culturally-informed beliefs and local knowledge systems in relation to science-based knowledge in a number of fields. These range from interactions in and with the natural environment to disease etiologies, and people’s attributions of causality in their understanding of both rapid and longer-term social, political-economic and environmental change. I am interested in how institutions and individuals learn, including through the use of new technologies.
