{"id":10605,"date":"2023-06-06T14:49:45","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T13:49:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/ifnh\/?p=10605"},"modified":"2023-07-17T15:53:38","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T14:53:38","slug":"inform-innovation-hub-investigating-the-role-of-functional-foods-and-beverages-to-improve-health-and-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/ifnh\/2023\/06\/06\/inform-innovation-hub-investigating-the-role-of-functional-foods-and-beverages-to-improve-health-and-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"INFORM Innovation Hub (Investigating the role of Functional foOds and beveRages to iMprove health and Recovery)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"govuk-body-l\" style=\"background: white;margin: 0cm 0cm 22.5pt 0cm\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;font-family: 'Open Sans',sans-serif;color: #505050\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/councils\/bbsrc\/\"><b><span style=\"color: #1e5df8\">Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(BBSRC), with support from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/councils\/innovate-uk\/\"><b><span style=\"color: #1e5df8\">Innovate UK<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/councils\/mrc\/\"><b><span style=\"color: #1e5df8\">Medical Research Council<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(MRC), have launched six innovation hubs as part of a new Diet and Health Open Innovation Research Club (OIRC), representing an investment of almost \u00a315 million. \u00a0The OIRC will help address critical shared barriers to innovation across the food and drink sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;margin: 0cm 0cm 15.0pt 0cm\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;font-family: 'Open Sans',sans-serif;color: #505050\">Poor diet has a huge impact on public health. \u00a0As recently highlighted in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/government-food-strategy\/government-food-strategy#healthier-and-sustainable-eating\"><b><span style=\"color: #1e5df8\">government food strategy<\/span><\/b><\/a>, \u00a0The OIRC hubs will bring together world-class leaders from academia, industry and wider stakeholders to address the challenge of producing and encouraging the uptake of healthier, more nutritious food products in the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 18.0pt;background: white\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;font-family: 'Open Sans',sans-serif;color: #434241;letter-spacing: .05pt\">As part of this initiative, the University of Reading will lead the INFORM Hub &#8211;
