INFORM Hub and Steering Committee member, Dr Emilie Combet leads The Scottish Alliance for Food (SCAF), funded by the Scottish Funding Council.
SCAF has made significant strides in supporting research linked to food and nutrition in Scotland. Over the past two years, SCAF has actively supported its 500+ members through a comprehensive range of strategic activities, including showcases, competitions, webinars and small pump-priming awards designed to de-risk future larger bids and build research capacity. With eight projects recently funded in the second round of pump-priming awards supporting 24 colleagues across 14 institutions, SCAF has demonstrated its commitment to fostering cross-disciplinary and cross-sector research collaboration.
The Alliance continues to create targeted opportunities for researchers, including the upcoming residential writing retreat, online networking events, photo competitions and member-led webinars. By providing these strategic support mechanisms, SCAF enables researchers, practitioners and members of the public to develop innovative approaches to address societal grand challenges linked to food. SCAF brings together expertise from social, natural, applied sciences, and humanities, creating a unique platform for understanding and addressing the complexity of food systems. Researchers interested in joining SCAF (not restricted to people living in Scotland!) are invited to explore the Alliance’s work and potential for meaningful research partnerships.
