Today it was my first day at the <\/span>MERL<\/span><\/a> (Museum of English Rural Life), where the <\/span>Special Collections<\/span><\/a> of the University of Reading are held, among which are the <\/span>Archives of the Hogarth Press<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was really exciting to open my first box; I obviously started from the one containing documents regarding the Italian Translations Rights.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Oh gosh… the things that are in there! At first I was quite discouraged because I found so many answers to a series of questions that had come to my mind while writing my last book, and I thought all my previous work was wrong and I should be reconsidering my last 5 years of work. But then I took a pause, I drank a coffee in the beautiful garden, sitting on a bench in the sun, and I said to myself that this is the reason why I am here: to do all those things that I could not do in the past, that I wouldn’t have done if were I not given the right opportunity.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

So I went back inside and I went on reading all those documents, all those names I knew so well, some of them because I’ve been working on them for the last six or seven years, others because I’ve met and interviewed them, like Laura Lepetit, the founder of La Tartaruga publishing house.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I’ve also discovered a possible scoop so definitely not bad for the first day of research! But I need to do some more research before I can tell you something about it so… stay tuned!<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u00c8 stato davvero eccitante aprire la mia prima scatola; ovviamente sono partita da quella contenente i documenti sui diritti di traduzione italiani. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Oh mamma… quello che non c’\u00e8 l\u00ec dentro! In un primo momento mi sono fatta prendere dallo sconforto perch\u00e9 ho trovato cos\u00ec tante risposte a una serie di domande che erano sorte durante la scrittura del mio ultimo libro, e ho pensato che tutto il lavoro che avevo fatto era sbagliato e avrei dovuto ripensare i miei ultimi 5 anni di lavoro. Ma poi mi sono presa una pausa, mi sono bevuta un caff\u00e8 nel bellissimo giardino del MERL seduta su una panchina al sole e mi sono detta che questa \u00e8 la ragione per cui sono qui: fare tutte quelle cose che non ho potuto fare in passato, che non avrei fatto se non mi fosse stata la giusta opportunit\u00e0. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

E allora sono rientrata e sono andata avanti a leggere tutti quei documenti, tutti quei nome che conosco cos\u00ec bene, alcuni di questi perch\u00e9 ci lavoro da sei o sette anni, altri perch\u00e9 li ho incontrati e intervistati di persona, come Laura Lepetit, la fondatrice della casa editrice La Tartaruga.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Ho anche trovato un possible scoop, quindi decisamente niente male come primo giorno di ricerche! Ma devo fare ancora un po’ di ricerche prima di svelarvi di cosa si tratta quindi… stay tuned!<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
