{"id":354,"date":"2019-11-06T17:56:33","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T17:56:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/italian-woolf\/?p=354"},"modified":"2019-11-06T18:10:39","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T18:10:39","slug":"a-book-too-specific","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/italian-woolf\/a-book-too-specific\/","title":{"rendered":"A book too specific, or maybe not&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"#ancora2\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">[<\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">Leggi in italiano]<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When The Hogarth Press sent a newly printed copy of <em>A Room of One\u2019s Own<\/em> to the French publisher of Woolf\u2019s works, they replied that the book was too specific, and referred &#8216;too exclusively&#8217; to English life matters to be of interest to the French public.<br \/>\nI couldn\u2019t help laughing in reading this, since I couldn\u2019t but think of the five events to which I have being invited to speak of <em>A Room of One\u2019s Own<\/em> in the next few weeks in Italy, addressed to students, scholars and \u2018common readers\u2019 alike.<br \/>\n<span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">Next Sunday, November 10<\/span><sup style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">th<\/sup><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">, I\u2019m holding a workshop on <\/span><em style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">A Room of One\u2019s Own<\/em><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\"> inside <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leggiamoperpiacere.com\">Leggiamo, per piacere<\/a>, a two-day festival aimed at promoting the love for books and for reading, and focused on two main targets: young people and women.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">On the 25<\/span><sup style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">th<\/sup><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\"> and 26<\/span><sup style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">th<\/sup><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\"> of November, I\u2019ll be in three different events in Cuneo, invited by the Equal Opportunities Office to discuss, as a Woolf scholar, on women\u2019s role in conversation with Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sergio_Soave\">Sergio Soave<\/a>, associate professor at the University of Turin .<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">On the 28<\/span><sup style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">th<\/sup><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\"> of November, I\u2019ll be holding the first of my Research Project workshops on gender equality and Woolf for school students at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salesianimilano.it\/\">Istituto Salesiani<\/a><\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\"> of Milan<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">, invited by Dr Paolo Balconi (I\u2019ll tell you more about this workshop in due time).<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">Above all, however, I couldn\u2019t but think of my copy of <\/span><em style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">A Room of One\u2019s Own<\/em><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.08px\">, ready for me to find any possible reference when I talk about the modernity and universality of this text.
