When The Hogarth Press sent a newly printed copy of A Room of One\u2019s Own<\/em> to the French publisher of Woolf\u2019s works, they replied that the book was too specific, and referred ‘too exclusively’ to English life matters to be of interest to the French public.
\nI couldn\u2019t help laughing in reading this, since I couldn\u2019t but think of the five events to which I have being invited to speak of A Room of One\u2019s Own<\/em> in the next few weeks in Italy, addressed to students, scholars and \u2018common readers\u2019 alike.
\nNext Sunday, November 10<\/span>th<\/sup>, I\u2019m holding a workshop on <\/span>A Room of One\u2019s Own<\/em> inside Leggiamo, per piacere<\/a>, a two-day festival aimed at promoting the love for books and for reading, and focused on two main targets: young people and women.
\n<\/span>On the 25<\/span>th<\/sup> and 26<\/span>th<\/sup> of November, I\u2019ll be in three different events in Cuneo, invited by the Equal Opportunities Office to discuss, as a Woolf scholar, on women\u2019s role in conversation with Dr Sergio Soave<\/a>, associate professor at the University of Turin .
\n<\/span>On the 28<\/span>th<\/sup> of November, I\u2019ll be holding the first of my Research Project workshops on gender equality and Woolf for school students at Istituto Salesiani<\/a><\/span> of Milan<\/span>, invited by Dr Paolo Balconi (I\u2019ll tell you more about this workshop in due time).
\n<\/span>Above all, however, I couldn\u2019t but think of my copy of <\/span>A Room of One\u2019s Own<\/em>, ready for me to find any possible reference when I talk about the modernity and universality of this text. Not bad for a booklet dealing \u2018exclusively\u2019 with English life matters!<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>Un libro troppo specifico, o forse no…<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Quanto la Hogarth Press sped\u00ec una copia fresca di stampa di Una stanza tutta per s\u00e9 <\/em>all\u2019editore francese di Woolf, questi rispose che il libro era troppo specifico, e che si riferiva troppo esclusivamente a questioni legate alla vita inglese per essere interessante per un pubblico francese.
\nLeggendo questa lettera non ho potuto fare a meno di ridere, perch\u00e9 non ho potuto non pensare ai cinque eventi ai quali sono stata invitata a parlare di <\/span>Una stanza tutta per s\u00e9 <\/em>nelle prossime settimane in Italia, rivolti a studenti, studiosi e \u2018lettori comuni\u2019.
\n<\/span>La prossima domenica 10 novembre terr\u00f2 un workshop su <\/span>Una stanza tutta per s\u00e9 <\/em>all\u2019interno di Leggiamo, per piacere<\/a>, una festa di due giorni che ha lo scopo di promuovere l\u2019amore per i libri e la lettura e che si concentra, in questa prima edizione, su giovani e donne.
\n<\/span>Il 25 e il 26 novembre terr\u00f2 tre diversi eventi nella provincia di Cuneo, su invito dell\u2019Ufficio Pari Opportunit\u00e0, per discutere da esperta di Woolf del ruolo delle donne in conversazione col professor Sergio Soave<\/a>, dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Torino.
\nIl 28 novembre terr\u00f2 invece il primo dei workshop sull\u2019equit\u00e0 di genere e Woolf previsti dal mio progetto di ricerca e sar\u00f2 all\u2019Istituto Salesiani<\/a> di Milano, invitata dal Prof Paolo Balconi (vi dir\u00f2 di pi\u00f9 di questi workshop pi\u00f9 avanti).
\nSoprattutto, comunque, non ho potuto fare a meno di pensare alla mia copia di Una stanza tutta per s\u00e9<\/em>, pronta per permettermi di trovare qualsiasi possibile riferimento quando parlo di attualit\u00e0 e universalit\u00e0 di questo testo. Non male per un libretto che tratta \u2018esclusivamente\u2019 di questioni di vita inglese.<\/p>\n
