{"id":12,"date":"2017-10-10T18:30:47","date_gmt":"2017-10-10T17:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/landsurfaceprocesses\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2026-03-30T20:41:20","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T19:41:20","slug":"who","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/landsurfaceprocesses\/who\/","title":{"rendered":"Who we are"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Members of the University of Reading&#8217;s Land Surface Processes Cluster<\/h2>\n<p>The cross-School interdisciplinary Land Surface Processes cluster combines research carried out at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Reading<\/a> within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/ges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Geography and Environmental Science<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.met.reading.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Meteorology<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ncas.ac.uk\/our-science\/climate-global-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCAS-Climate<\/a> together with external collaborators, in particular the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceh.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH)<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">British Geological survey (BGS)<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/weather\/learn-about\/climate-and-climate-change\/climate-change\/science\/science-behind-climate-change\/hadley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Met Office Hadley Centre<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecmwf.int\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">European Centre for Medium range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The cluster aims to generate impactful knowledge on the Critical Zone in the context of a range of research (predominantly NERC funded) and PhD projects, ranging from studies on climate extremes (flooding, droughts, heatwaves), to renewable energy (ground source heat pumps, biofuels). More widely, we participate in (inter)national research efforts on monitoring and modelling (e.g. CMIP) of the global water, energy and carbon balance (<a href=\"http:\/\/wcrp-climate.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WRCP<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gewex.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GEWEX<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who 1: Academic staff, Research staff, and PDRAs<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Within SAGES: Geography &amp;
