What does the name \"hybricon\" mean? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Hybricon comes from the contraction of two words \"hybrid conflict\". As its indicates Hybricon is a research project that focuses on hybridization processes. These are phenomena arising from the interaction between norms, practices and values at the local level with those that come from the international level. These interactions affect local institutions and practices. Sometimes local actors adopt these norms, practices and values that come from outside; sometimes there is resistance or rejection involving a certain level of violence.<\/p>\n

Why Madagascar? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Madagascar is a very interesting field of research due to the multiple periods of hybridization in different historical contexts, allowing the development of a more nuanced understanding of the impacts of hybridization. Madagascar has experienced frequent episodes of conflict. Since the colonial period, the country has experienced nine major episodes of conflict at different stages. The most recent is the one that occurred in 2009. \u00a0An important feature of these episodes is their dynamic nature in a context of persistent non-violent conflict between local communities, and between government and communities.<\/p>\n

What are the objectives of the Hybricon project? <\/strong><\/p>\n

How has the dynamics of conflict in Madagascar been shaped by hybridization? This is the main question that is at the heart of the Hybricon project.\u00a0 All project activities will be used to collect and analyse information related to this issue. By working with institutions, organizations, local communities in the implementation of our activities, we aim in particular at improving the understanding of the factors and dynamics of conflicts, and thus improving the capacity of different actors (local, national and international) to deal with them. Our research project is participatory in nature. We aim at co-creating activities with existing local organizations. It will be an opportunity to learn from each other and build solutions together.<\/p>\n

Who can benefit from the project? <\/strong><\/p>\n

To local communities<\/em>: whom we will help to take ownership of their stories and make voices heard in decision-making processes \u2013 this project will empower them as they take ownership of local peace efforts and generate bottom-up solutions that meet their real needs. Through narrative workshops, the activities will make them become active decision-makers;<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>To the local political elite:<\/em> to whom we will provide new tools to help them address the root causes of the conflict \u2013 they will benefit from consultation, collaboration, deliberation and dialogue between government, grassroots and other external actors. They will engage more in participatory problem solving leading to conflict resolution rather than adopting top-down technocratic practices. In addition, they will benefit from the data generated by the project and used to design evidence-based policies that address the root causes of the conflict;<\/p>\n

To international and local practitioners<\/em>: to whom we will propose new approaches to understanding hybridization processes and their effects on local conflict trajectories in order to improve programming and policy \u2013 they will learn from the local knowledge that this research produces and thus improve conflict programming and policies by shaping evidence-based projects.<\/p>\n

Who implements Hybricon?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project is implemented by a team of researchers and professionals with expertise in peacebuilding and communication.\u00a0\u00a0 Our motto \"Ny fihavananay, manorina anaty filaminana\" or \"our peace: understanding each other, living and building together in harmony\" affirms our commitment. We are young people who want to preserve Malagasy values while building a future of collective peace according to the definition of the local communities that we collect through the narratives from this study. This research project is carried out in collaboration with the University of Reading and with the financial support of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI). The project is implemented in the provinces of Madagascar. The activities will be carried out until September 2023.<\/p>\n

Beyond research, what is the purpose of such a project?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even though HYBRICON is a research project, we hope that our work can be translated into public policy.<\/p>\n

Que signifie le nom \u00ab\u00a0hybricon\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Hybricon vient de la contraction de deux mots \u00ab hybrid conflict \u00bb ou conflit hybride. Comme son nom l\u2019indique, Hybricon est un projet de recherche qui s\u2019int\u00e9resse aux processus d\u2019hybridation. Il s\u2019agit de ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes d\u00e9coulant de l\u2019interaction entre les normes, les pratiques et les valeurs au niveau local avec celles qui viennent de l\u2019international. Ces interactions affectent les institutions et les pratiques locales. Parfois, les acteurs locaux adoptent ces normes, pratiques et valeurs qui viennent de l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur ; parfois, on observe une r\u00e9sistance ou un rejet impliquant un certain niveau de violence.<\/p>\n

Pourquoi Madagascar\u00a0? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Madagascar constitue un terrain de recherche tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant en raison des multiples p\u00e9riodes d\u2019hybridation dans diff\u00e9rents contextes historiques, permettant le d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019une compr\u00e9hension plus nuanc\u00e9e des impacts de l\u2019hybridation. Madagascar a connu de fr\u00e9quents \u00e9pisodes de conflit. Depuis la p\u00e9riode coloniale, le pays a connu neuf \u00e9pisodes majeurs de conflit \u00e0 diff\u00e9rents stades. Le plus r\u00e9cent est celui qui s'est produit en 2009. Une caract\u00e9ristique importante de ces \u00e9pisodes est leur nature dynamique dans un contexte de conflit non violent persistant entre les communaut\u00e9s locales, et entre le gouvernement et les communaut\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Quels sont les objectifs du projet Hybricon\u00a0? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Comment la dynamique des conflits \u00e0 Madagascar a \u00e9t\u00e9 fa\u00e7onn\u00e9e par l\u2019hybridation? Telle est la question principale qui est au c\u0153ur du projet Hybricon. Toutes les activit\u00e9s du projet serviront \u00e0 collecter et \u00e0 analyser des informations relatives \u00e0 cette question. En travaillant avec des institutions, des organisations, des communaut\u00e9s locales dans la mise en \u0153uvre de nos activit\u00e9s, nous visons en particulier \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer la compr\u00e9hension des facteurs et des dynamiques des conflits, et ainsi am\u00e9liorer la capacit\u00e9 des diff\u00e9rents acteurs (locaux, nationaux et internationaux) \u00e0 y faire face. A qui peut b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier le projet\u00a0? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Aux communaut\u00e9s locales<\/em>,<\/strong> que nous aiderons \u00e0 s\u2019approprier de leurs histoires et \u00e0 faire entendre les voix dans les processus de prise de d\u00e9cision - ce projet les responsabilisera car ils s\u2019approprieront des efforts de paix locaux et g\u00e9n\u00e9reront des solutions ascendantes r\u00e9pondant \u00e0 leurs besoins r\u00e9els. A travers les ateliers narratifs, les activit\u00e9s les feront devenir des d\u00e9cideurs actifs\u00a0;<\/p>\n

A l\u2019\u00e9lite politique locale<\/em>, \u00e0 qui nous fournirons de nouveaux outils pour les aider \u00e0 s\u2019attaquer aux causes profondes du conflit \u2013 ils b\u00e9n\u00e9ficieront de la consultation, de la collaboration, de la d\u00e9lib\u00e9ration et du dialogue entre les acteurs gouvernementaux, la base et d\u2019autres acteurs externes. Ils s\u2019engageront davantage dans la r\u00e9solution participative des probl\u00e8mes menant \u00e0 la r\u00e9solution des conflits plut\u00f4t que d\u2019adopter des pratiques technocratiques descendantes. En outre, ils b\u00e9n\u00e9ficieront des donn\u00e9es g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es par le projet et qu\u2019ils pourront utiliser pour concevoir des politiques fond\u00e9es sur des donn\u00e9es probantes qui s\u2019attaqueront aux causes profondes du conflit\u00a0;<\/p>\n

Aux praticiens internationaux et locaux auxquels<\/em> nous proposerons de nouvelles approches pour comprendre les processus d\u2019hybridation et leurs effets sur les trajectoires de conflits locaux afin d\u2019am\u00e9liorer la programmation et les politiques \u2013 ils apprendront des connaissances locales que cette recherche produit et am\u00e9lioreront ainsi la programmation et les politiques de conflit en fa\u00e7onnant des projets fond\u00e9s sur des donn\u00e9es probantes.<\/p>\n

Qui met en \u0153uvre Hybricon\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le projet est mis en \u0153uvre par une \u00e9quipe compos\u00e9e de chercheurs et de professionnels ayant des expertises dans la consolidation de la paix et la communication.\u00a0 Notre devise \u00abNy fihavananay, manorina anaty filaminana \u00bb ou \u00ab notre paix : se comprendre, vivre et b\u00e2tir ensemble en s\u00e9curit\u00e9 \u00bb affirme notre engagement. Nous sommes des jeunes qui voulons conserver les valeurs malgaches tout en b\u00e2tissant un avenir de paix collectif selon la d\u00e9finition des communaut\u00e9s locales que nous collectons \u00e0 travers les narratifs issus de cette \u00e9tude. Ce projet de recherche est r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en collaboration avec l'universit\u00e9 de Reading et sous l'appui financier de l'Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) et de United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI).
