Food, Supply Chains & the Environment

Food

We have developed multi scale mathematical models of crop growth applied to the African legume Vigna subterranea (Bambara groundnut) for supporting food security in the context of a changing climate. The model framework is generic and can be applied to other crop canopy species.

We lead a multidisciplinary project (Hi-Fi Bread) focused on improving the fibre content of white bread using new higher fibre white wheat varieties as part of the Transforming UK Food Systems initiative. This working is being undertaken with colleagues at Rothamsted Research, the University of Leeds and industry partners.

Supply Chains & the EnvironmentOur work is focused on applying complex systems methods to supply chains. Current topics include understanding the role of nonlinearity in supply chains and the effect of a changing climate on our ability to transform and ensure supply chains are resilient for food and other products.
