Decarbonising electricity generation is one of the great challenges on the path to a net-zero economy and a stabilised global climate. Wind power is a rapidly growing source of renewable energy, with China and the UK as leading players in this sector. Both countries are therefore exposed to fluctuations in wind power, yet global and regional projections of wind patterns over the coming decades remain uncertain.<\/p>\n

This webinar presented research into future regional wind climate over the European and Asian region from the WISTEREA (Wind Stilling and Energy in Europe and Asia) programme. Specifically, it discussed evidence for potential global \u201cwind stilling\u201d, identifying robust insights and provide a new perspective reconciling the apparently conflicting evidence from different observational data streams. It also showed how state-of-the-art climate modelling systems can potentially be leveraged to provide skillful regional wind-speed predictions over the coming decade.<\/p>\n
