Research on fundamental aspects is led by <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/people\/david-ferreira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Ferreira<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/people\/remi-tailleux\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Remi Tailleux<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/people\/remi-tailleux\/\">.<\/a> It is the most recent incarnation of a group originally founded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.physics.ox.ac.uk\/contacts\/people\/marshalld\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Marshall<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.earth.ox.ac.uk\/~helenj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Helen Johnson<\/a>, who both moved to Oxford in 2007. Remi Tailleux was appointed as a lecturer in Oceanography in August 2007 to replace David Marshall. David Ferreira joined the department a few years later to reinforce the oceanographic presence in the department in 2013. This rebranded website aims to replace the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.met.reading.ac.uk\/~ocean\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">old Ocean Group website<\/a>. Other brands of oceanographic-related research are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.met.rdg.ac.uk\/~jonathan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonathan Gregory<\/a> (sea level, ocean heat uptake)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/people\/keith-haines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keith Haines<\/a> (Data assimilation, energy transfers, &#8230;)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/met-polar-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Danny Feltham<\/a> (sea ice, polar oceanography, ..)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/people\/jon-robson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jon Robson<\/a> (Thermohaline circulation, oceanic variability, predictability, &#8230;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>David Ferreira and Remi Tailleux seek to understand the dynamics and thermodynamics of oceanic phenomena and their role in the climate system using complementary approach, David&#8217;s research relying on numerical ocean models, while Remi Tailleux&#8217;s research is more fundamental and theoretical.
