{"id":84,"date":"2018-03-17T20:55:26","date_gmt":"2018-03-17T20:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-2\/?page_id=84"},"modified":"2024-05-30T15:48:14","modified_gmt":"2024-05-30T14:48:14","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/met-tropical\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Our group is part of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/met\">Department of Meteorology<\/a>\u00a0of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/\">University of Reading<\/a> and is headed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.met.reading.ac.uk\/userpages\/sws98bjh.php\">Professor Sir\u00a0Brian Hoskins CBE FRS<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/met-tropical\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/57\/logo\/full-colour-png.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-43\" src=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/met-tropical\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/57\/logo\/full-colour-png-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The aim of the group is to enhance the understanding of the dynamics and nature of phenomena that occur in the atmosphere on meso to global scales and that are important in weather and climate. This aim is pursued using a combination of theory, diagnostics of observations and the design, execution and diagnosis of experiments using a range of numerical models.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Phenomena of current interest in the mid-latitudes include storm-tracks, blocking, cyclones and teleconnections. In lower latitudes, the subtropical anticyclones-monsoon system, the water vapour distribution and the organisation of tropical heating are all being investigated.
