Improving the accuracy of air quality forecasts

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Responsibilities:

PhD Student Year 1

Research Interests:

  • Air quality meteorology
  • Regional modelling

Research Projects:

  • Improving the accuracy of air quality forecasts : This project focuses on improving Air Quality in the Met Office Unified Model (AQUM) over the UK. It is important to identify sources of error within the operational model in order to better forecast regional air quality. Using various statistical skill scores and through developing other novel verification techniques, I hope to link the performance of the AQUM forecast of meteorological variables with the forecast of surface pollutant concentrations.
