{"id":11447,"date":"2022-10-14T09:07:37","date_gmt":"2022-10-14T08:07:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/?page_id=11447"},"modified":"2025-04-25T10:51:34","modified_gmt":"2025-04-25T09:51:34","slug":"meteorology-fellowships-open-day","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/research\/opportunities\/fellowships\/meteorology-fellowships-open-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Meteorology Fellowships Open Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Meteorology Fellowships Open Day: 7th May 2025<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The University of Reading Meteorology Department is holding an open day for prospective fellowship applicants on Wednesday 7th May<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The open day will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Talks from senior faculty on the advantages of choosing the University of Reading to host your fellowship.<\/li>\n<li>Talks from recent fellowship holders in the Meteorology Department, in which they will share their experiences of holding a fellowship here.<\/li>\n<li>Talks from a Research Development Manager within Research Services, who will outline the support offered to applicants as they prepare their applications, as well as our new university-wide position on permanent positions for fellowship holders.<\/li>\n<li>A dedicated Q&amp;A session.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whether you are interested in applying for a NERC IRF, a Royal Society URF, STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowship, Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship, Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship or similar, this is your chance to explore your options and find out more about being a fellowship-holder at Reading.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Agenda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All talks will be in room HP175.\u00a0 Lunch will be in HP176.<\/p>\n<p>10:00: Arrival with tea\/coffee\/water\/biscuits available (HP175).<\/p>\n<p>10:30: Introduction to Reading\u2019s Environment Theme (Sue Gray).\u00a0 RECORDED &amp; STREAMED.<\/p>\n<p>10:45: Introduction to Meteorology Department (David Brayshaw).\u00a0 RECORDED &amp; STREAMED.<\/p>\n<p>11:00: Introduction to Research Divisions (Danny Feltham, Matt Owens, Paul Williams and Shovonlal Roy) RECORDED &amp; STREAMED.<\/p>\n<p>11:30: Walking tour of Department OR Atmospheric Observatory followed by tea\/coffee\/water\/biscuits (HP175).<\/p>\n<p>12:00: Personal experiences of Fellows in Meteorology at Reading.\u00a0 STREAMED:<\/p>\n<p>Andrea Dittus &#8220;Applying for a NERC Independent Research Fellowship: my experience and things I wish I&#8217;d known&#8221;;<\/p>\n<p>Luke Barnard &#8220;Anecdotes on the challenges of getting a research fellowship&#8221;;<\/p>\n<p>Kieran Hunt &#8220;How I didn&#8217;t get, didn&#8217;t quite get, then got my NERC Independent Research Fellowship&#8221;;<\/p>\n<p>Claire Ryder &#8220;Reflections on a Reading fellowship and IRF interview panel&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>13:00: Networking Lunch (room HP176).\u00a0 IN-PERSON &amp; ONLINE.<\/p>\n<p>14:00: Supporting you with your Fellowship (RES &#8211; led by Daniel Williamson).\u00a0 RECORDED &amp; STREAMED.<\/p>\n<p>14:45: Q&amp;A session (involving all presenters). STREAMED.<\/p>\n<p>15:15: Closing remarks (John Methven). STREAMED.<\/p>\n<p>15:20: Informal networking session with tea\/coffee (another chance to discuss ideas and raise questions 1:1).
