{"id":1261,"date":"2018-01-05T11:54:16","date_gmt":"2018-01-05T11:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/?page_id=1261"},"modified":"2026-03-17T14:24:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T14:24:10","slug":"our-visitor-programme","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/research\/opportunities\/our-visitor-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Our visitor programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our Visitor Programme aims to enhance the research capabilities of the Department of Meteorology by supporting visits that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strengthen existing, or develop new, collaborative links at the national and international level;<\/li>\n<li>Broaden the research interests of the Department through the provision of high-quality visiting research lecturers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We welcome visitors from all over the world at a variety of levels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Academic visitors;<\/li>\n<li>Student visitors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For staff hosting a visitor, please download the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/02\/How-To-Guide-for-Hosts-of-Academic-Student-Visitors.docx\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">How-To Guide for Hosts of Academic &amp; Student Visitors<\/span><\/a> which explains what you as the host should do.\u00a0 IMPORTANT: If your\u00a0<strong>student visitor&#8217;s<\/strong> home institution requires you to sign their Placement Agreement, please see P.3 of the above How-To Guide which explains what you need to do.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>How to apply to visit the Department of Meteorology<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Find a host \u2013 you need to identify a potential host from our staff list.\u00a0 Please consult with the potential host via email, copying in the <a href=\"mailto:j.m.weber@reading.ac.uk\">Director <\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1em\">about your visit dates and proposed activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Once our staff member agrees to host you, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">host<\/span> needs to check desk availability with Nicki Robinson (for BH) and Katie Riener or Caroline Vidler (for HP).\u00a0 If a desk is available, the host then completes the Visitor Form in conjunction with the visitor (please note that a visitor form is <em>not<\/em> necessary for visits of 1 or 2 days), as follows:\n<ul>\n<li>For an academic visitor (non-student), the host needs to download the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/02\/Academic-Visitor-Form-1.docx\">Academic Visitor Form (Non-Student)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0or<a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/01\/Academic-Visitor-Form-for-Online-Visits-29.7.2024.docx\"> Academic Visitor Form for Online Visits (Non-Student)<\/a> , complete it and email it to the <a href=\"mailto:j.m.weber@reading.ac.uk\">Director<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:n.c.robinson@reading.ac.uk\">Nicki Robinson<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>For a student visitor, the host needs to download the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/meteorology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/03\/Student-Visitor-Form.docx\">Student Visitor Form<\/a> , complete it and email it to the <a href=\"mailto:j.m.weber@reading.ac.uk\">Director<\/a>\u00a0and \u00a0<a href=\"mailto:n.c.robinson@reading.ac.uk\">Nicki Robinson<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Note that the Visitor Programme may not be able to provide all of the requested resources and support.\u00a0 In order to qualify for eligibility to claim some UK expenses (such as travel, accommodation and meals) from the Department\u2019s visitor fund, the visitor is required to give an advertised seminar during his or her stay.<\/li>\n<li>We strongly recommend that visitors have their own funding to support their visit.\u00a0 In case additional funding is needed, your host (our staff member) is encouraged to investigate other potential sources of funding before approaching the Director with a specific request.
