Be careful using unattributed images in talks if they are posted on websites!<\/p>\n

Avoiding copyright issues in educational resources
\n\u2022 Copyright protects original works of authorship \u2013 including artistic works \u2013 automatically. Copyright owners have exclusive rights to control reuse of their work, subject to exceptions.
\n\u2022 Copyright exceptions covering non-commercial teaching, and critical engagement with a work, are subject to a test of fair dealing. The use must be reasonable in the context, and the work must be acknowledged.
\n\u2022 Publishing slides containing unauthorised or unattributed third-party copyright-protected material \u2013 especially photographs \u2013 is higher risk, even if the use is non-commercial.<\/p>\n

To avoid copyright infringement, you should:
\n\u2022 Acknowledge the creator and the work used. Identifying the original source of third-party material is usually a prerequisite for reuse.
\n\u2022 Include only what is needed to make your point. Use that is demonstrably facilitative of accompanying commentary is less likely to infringe.
\n\u2022 Ensure the use made remains reasonable in the context. Use that is proportionate and properly contextualised is less likely to infringe.<\/p>\n

To remain copyright compliant, you must:
\n\u2022 Avoid copying and pasting from the internet without identifying the material that has been reproduced. Omitting attribution for works of known authorship is not usually permissible.
\n\u2022 Avoid using commercially licensable material in a manner that is incidental to your commentary or critique. Use undermining a work\u2019s \u201cnormal exploitation\u201d is likely to infringe.
\n\u2022 Avoid retaining third-party copyright-protected content if slides intended for a limited audience are made available to the public online. Use exceeding the scope of exceptions is likely to infringe.<\/p>\n
