Hurley Priory (Scheduled Monument List No. 100793) forms part of a notable cluster of medieval monastic establishments within the prominent loop of the River Thames examined by the Middle Thames Archaeology Partnership.\u00a0 Remains of the original monastic church and grange buildings form a tangible legacy of Hurley’s monastic past, but archaeological understanding remains poor.\u00a0 \u00a0Excavations in the early 20th<\/sup> century clarified some aspects of the medieval monastic church but raised many more questions.<\/p>\n

In September 2019, the University of Reading teamed up with Hurley History Society to conduct a programme of geophysical survey to fill gaps in understanding.\u00a0 The results have helped to clarify the layout of the medieval priory church and adjacent buildings and revealed details associated with the post-dissolution development of the site as ‘Ladye Place’.<\/p>\n
