Our Research

Olfactory research at the University of Reading started back in March 2019 when I met Chris Kelly, the founder of AbScent, at a flavour conference run by Flavour Horizons and the British Society of Flavourists.  I knew nothing of parosmia and her personal account of it, and some of the items that seemed to be responsible for triggering distortions and disgust, was enlightening. As a flavour chemist I was fascinated as it was possibly the same aroma compounds that I was analysing everyday in my research. And that was the dawn of olfactory research at Reading, as we realised how much we could do together to try and understand what was going on in this little known disease.
