Volunteer Visits to Reading

Do you have parosmia?

Are you interested in spending a day at the Olfaction Lab helping us with our research?

Are you interested in sniffing lots of different aromas so we can assess you ability to smell?

This is part of our study to investigate what foods, and in particular what aroma compounds, are responsible for triggering the distortions and disgust perceived by those with parosmia.

We use our expertise in flavour analysis to separate out all the aroma compounds in coffee (for example) so that volunteers can sniff them one by one, and tell us what they smell like, how strong they are and whether they “have that parosmia smell”. We are now expanding our investigation into perfumes, shower products, household cleaning products and even in water.

We will be looking for volunteers once the COVID-19 stay at home restrictions are lifted. If you want to register your interest please email olfaction@reading.ac.uk  and we will get back to you when we start up again.
