PDRA in EEO Vegetation Modelling<\/strong> –> see job advert on the UoR website here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The PDRA in EEO Vegetation Modelling\u00a0will work on the\u00a0<\/span>LEMONTREE<\/span><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(<\/span>Land Ecosystem Models based On New Theory, observations and Experiments) project and will be<\/span> part of a team of scientists developing and testing a theoretical basis for modelling vegetation based on eco-evolutionary optimality (EEO) theory, suitable for implementation in the land-surface scheme of earth system models. The post-holder will be responsible for integrating existing EEO components into a coherent framework and advising on the implementation of this framework in the JULES and EC-LAND land-surface models. <\/span>Applications close 8th March 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The PDRA in EEO Fire Modelling will work on the\u00a0LEMONTREE<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>(Land Ecosystem Models based On New Theory, observations and Experiments) project and will be part of a team of scientists developing a theoretical basis for modelling wildfire-vegetation interactions, based on eco-evolutionary optimality (EEO) theory. The PDRA will be explicitly responsible for extending the current EEO modelling framework to simulate wildfire occurrence on a weekly timestep, including incorporating modules for vegetation cover, fuel load and drying, and propensity to burn. They will also be responsible for evaluating and optimising the performance of the modelling framework using field and laboratory experiments.. The PDRA in Palaeoenvironmental Reconstruction will work on the EcoArch (Ecological Archaeologies of the Afrotropics) project and will be part of a team of scientists investigating the interactions between climate, vegetation, wildfire and human activities across Africa and the Middle East during the Holocene. The post-holder will be responsible for developing and applying new statistical and modelling methods for analysing these interactions at a local scale around key archaeological sites in the Afrotropics. They will also be responsible for developing a synthetic understanding of continental scale reconstructions of climate, vegetation and wildfire regimes through time, including the use of these reconstructions for model evaluation.
