A student on the MSc Psychology Conversion programme is currently completing a research placement with the PRaES group. Yan Yang is a former senior product manager with six years of experience in the tech industry in China. After years of working in digital product development, she developed a strong interest in understanding user behaviour and emotional experience, which inspired her to pursue a career shift into psychology.

In her placement, Yan is working with Dr Emma Pape on research activities and group coordination within the PRaES lab. Her responsibilities have included supporting PhD student research on emotion regulation, collecting and analysing data, and preparing literature for upcoming studies.

In addition to her research contributions, Yan has been collaborating with Dr Alana James and Dr Rachel Pye to develop the PRaES website. This work includes designing the site’s overall information structure, planning individual page layouts, and updating and maintaining website content.

This placement has allowed Yan to build academic and research skills in a collaborative environment, while also making use of her previous strengths in digital communication and project coordination.
