{"id":758,"date":"2022-02-02T10:52:13","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T10:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/picsa\/?p=758"},"modified":"2022-02-02T10:56:51","modified_gmt":"2022-02-02T10:56:51","slug":"picsa-news-update-feb-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/picsa\/picsa-news-update-feb-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"PICSA News update Feb 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>The PICSA team, together with partners from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giz.de\/en\/html\/index.html\">Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bongohive.co.zm\/\">BongoHive Zambia<\/a> published a new <a href=\"https:\/\/ccafs.cgiar.org\/resources\/publications\/user-needs-assessment-climate-services-zambia\">CCAFS Working Paper<\/a>. This presented the results of research, conducted in February \u2013 April 2021, that assessed the needs of Zambian farmers for agrometeorological information.<\/li>\n<li>Building on the findings of the above research, the PICSA team, together with <a href=\"https:\/\/bongohive.co.zm\/\">BongoHive<\/a> have commenced work on a new, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giz.de\/en\/html\/index.html\">GIZ<\/a> funded, project in Zambia. This aims to roll out climate services training to farmers in Eastern and Southern Provinces, with a particular emphasis on the use of community radio. This creates an interesting opportunity to explore how radio programmes can complement some of the information and tools included in PICSA, and how it can help to reach farmers at a larger scale.<\/li>\n<li>Work has also begun on a new collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfp.org\/countries\/india\">World Food Programme in India<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/odisha.gov.in\/\">Government of Odisha<\/a>, to implement PICSA with farmers in <a href=\"https:\/\/ganjam.nic.in\/\">Ganjam, Odisha State<\/a>. The project started with a \u2018Learning and Knowledge Sharing Seminar\u2019 in which researchers from the University of Reading presented the PICSA approach, as well as the plans for PICSA in Odisha, to WFP and representatives from the State Government. Partners in Malawi and Bangladesh also presented their experience and expertise on implementing PICSA in their respective countries.
