<\/a>3.1 Job Hunting and Mailing Lists<\/em><\/p>\n

If you will be on the job market, this will be a formidable task on top of your duties.\u00a0 You will have worked for years with your advisors to build a competitive CV.\u00a0 However, there is much more entailed when applying for jobs.\u00a0 In the semester you plan to go on the market, you should meet with your advisor as soon as possible (the first weeks of the semester) to discuss your plans and for her\/him to inform you of the many documents you will need to begin to prepare.\u00a0 Countries can vary significantly in terms of what they ask for.\u00a0 For example, in North America you will need to get three to five reference letters to be submitted on the same date as your application.\u00a0 For your advisor, this is not a simple task or letter.\u00a0 They are often very exhaustive and time consuming.\u00a0 You should not wait until the last minute to ask for references, in fact, you should ask weeks in advance, minimally 2 but better to give even more time where possible.\u00a0 We are committed to helping you get the best job possible that fits your goals, and it will be our pleasure to do so.<\/p>\n

Useful links for finding jobs include Jobs.ac.uk<\/a> and Psychoneuroxy<\/a>. You should join these sites to receive email alerts about available jobs. Most Learned Societies will have webpages and blogs that may advertise jobs (e.g. BPS<\/a>, LAGB<\/a> etc.). Almost all of these will be on\u00a0social media (esp. Twitter), and some can be followed via email subscription or RSS. Some offer student-only areas, newsletters or even free student membership (in the latter case, you must<\/u> subscribe!).<\/p>\n

Various other mailing lists are also useful to join, as they provide information about conferences, jobs, grants and other announcements. We recommend that all lab members subscribe to these:<\/p>\n
