In July 2023, as part of the Building Bridges programme, ‘Raising the Pulse’ project joined the activities of Green Planet theme focusing on the environment and sustainability. Building Bridges supports primary school students’ successful transition to secondary school by boosting their academic motivation and engagement. This sustained contact programme was set up by the Department of Chemistry at University of Oxford and works with multiple partners from across the collegiate university and externally.
Nearly 600 school pupils spent time with researchers from the Universities of Oxford and Reading. Pupils and staff learned key messages about the RtP researchers’ work on sustainability, and how fibre in staple foods through the inclusion of the faba bean could offer a healthier and better for the environment alternative.
