{"id":854,"date":"2024-01-28T13:49:05","date_gmt":"2024-01-28T13:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/reading-resilience-network\/?p=854"},"modified":"2024-05-27T10:50:53","modified_gmt":"2024-05-27T09:50:53","slug":"the-stress-ball-wellbeing-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/reading-resilience-network\/the-stress-ball-wellbeing-tool\/","title":{"rendered":"The Stress Ball Wellbeing Tool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">To return to the main Resilience Rucksack project page, <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/reading-resilience-network\/resilience-rucksack\/\">click here<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In our <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/reading-resilience-network\/resilience-rucksack-co-production-workshops\">co-production workshops<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/reading-resilience-network\/resilience-rucksack-self-compassion-theme\/\">&#8216;Self Compassion&#8217; theme<\/a>, as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/reading-resilience-network\/resilience-rucksack\/\">Resilience Rucksack project<\/a>, young people advised us on the best ways to engage children in starting to think about and practising self compassion to help enhance overall wellbeing. Three tools stood out as the best and most engaging ways to start thinking about and practising self compassion: A stress ball that you can carry with you, a journal with guides for supporting your own self compassion, a list of recommended fun fiction books that involve self compassion themes. Anxiety happens when we feel especially worried about something and NHS UK have outlined a number of symptoms, including a racing heartbeat, feeling restless, and having difficulty concentrating. Stress balls are a tool that can help us through these feelings at times where they may feel overwhelming.<\/p>\n<p>Stress balls work in two ways.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>They can make us feel happy. This is through the releasing of endorphins, our &#8216;happy chemicals&#8217;, which our bodies naturally produce when we are doing something we enjoy.
