SUMMARY:Building investor confidence in climate adaptation and innovation - UoR's Institute for Environmental Analytics to join discussions at ECCA 2019
DESCRIPTION:ECCA 2019\, May 27-31\, Lisbon \nClimate services research is the hot topic trending among financial circles eagerly looking for the tipping point for investment in adaptation methods and products and the Institute for Environmental Analytics – based at the University of Reading – will be joining the discussions at ECCA 2019\, the European Climate Adaptation Conference\, in Lisbon (May 28-30). \nReliable renewable energy\, improved weather forecasting systems\, data analytics platforms alerting us to drought and flooding risks\, early warning for weather hazards\, climate modelling to make strategic decisions for water supplies and agriculture – all have the potential to inform better decision-making. But those decisions need to make a clear business case to earn the confidence of investors and strategic decision-makers. \nUsing data to inform investment decisions \nAs specialists in developing proof-of-concept data applications based on world-leading research\, the needs of clients are at the core of everything we do at the Institute for Environmental Analytics\, including providing robust evidence to support investment decisions.  \nRE-SAT is our new powerful renewable energy analytics platform that helps to minimise the risks of investment and support governments in transitioning from fossil fuels to reliable renewable energy\, offering a low carbon pathway for sustainable development. \nInspiring governments and energy providers \nWith funding from the UK Space Agency’s International Partnerships Programme\, RE-SAT is inspiring investment from governments\, utility providers\, other stakeholders and financial organisations in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Tailored to each country’s weather and landscape and using multiple environmental datasets alongside advanced analytics RE-SAT provides a user-friendly\, bespoke desktop platform that enables: \n\nOptimisation of the location of renewable energy infrastructure\nIncreasing productivity\nForecasting of energy production daily\nDevelopment in partnership with the host country’s energy teams.\n\nProviding accurate renewable energy projections \nRE-SAT’s combination of improving accuracy of renewable energy generation projections\, reducing the risk of financial exposure to variability in power production and saving money on redundant infrastructure all build investor confidence in renewable energy projects. \nFollowing a successful pilot in Seychelles\, RE-SAT is now being rolled out to a further 6 SIDS in the Pacific Ocean\, Indian Ocean and the Caribbean supporting their governments in reaching their fossil fuel targets to meet their Paris Agreement commitments. \nFind out how our skills can meet your needs \nWe have established an excellent reputation in developing data platforms to suit a wide range of technical and non-technical users and our bespoke training ensures that your team builds the skills and confidence to maximise your investment. \nSpeak to us today about how you can utilise our expert knowledge to support your business challenges\, whether you are a global leader or a start-up. \nEmail info@the-iea.org \nECCA 2019 \nThe Institute for Environmental Analytics is taking part in JPI Climate’s side event at ECCA 2019\, on Monday\, May 27th\, ‘Climate services: state of affairs\, relevance for users and the way forward’ (13:00-17:20)\nJoin in the afternoon of panel debate\, world café discussions and project presentations which will expand on the role of climate services research in inspiring confidence in financial investment in adaptation methods and products\, bringing together leading figures in investment\, the European Commission\, current climates services projects and climate services experts from across Europe.  \nFollow our activity at ECCA 2019 on Twitter @env_analytics and on Instagram JPIClimate@ECCA2019 \nClimate Pledge photo booth \nVisit the JPI Climate at stand 22\, on Floor 2 of the central foyer where we will have a Climate Pledge photo booth – choose your fun props\, make your pledge and take a photo for your social media pages! \nSally Stevens\, from the Institute of Environmental Analytics\, will attend ECCA 2019.
