SUMMARY:Echoes of Manguebeat: video essay and seminar by Amanda Mansur Nogueira
DESCRIPTION:Film production in Pernambuco\, in the Northeastern Region of Brazil\, grew out of the effervescent music scene of the 1990s. Pernambucan cinema has appropriated Manguebeat music and film in contemporary Pernambucan cinema as a synesthetic experience and transmedia experience. \nBased on the methodology of intermedia analysis\, the aim of this seminar is to open up the relationship between music What has been the impact of Manguebeat on film production in Pernambuco? How does the music define the choice of camera angles\, performances\, editing? How does the music articulate the films’ narratives? It is with the intention of discussing such issues that we propose this seminar and the presentation of  a video essay. \nAmanda Mansur Nogueira is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Reading\, supervised by Professor Lúcia Nagib. She is an expert in Pernambucan cinema and a Lecturer in Film Production at Federal University of Pernambuco in Brazil. \nPlease contact Amanda for more details: a.mansurcustodionogueira@reading.ac.uk

SUMMARY:The Urban Room - Public-facing encounters (Architecture)
DESCRIPTION:Public-facing artist ‘encounters’ will occur on Wednesdays and Fridays\, 12-2pm\, between 15 May and 31 May. All are welcome. \nAt the University of Reading this summer\, we present the Urban Room: a temporary wooden structure which carries the potential for enabling conversation and encounters between people and communities across Reading as a town and the University. Built by second year Architecture students as part of their studies\, the Urban Room will offer a visually stimulating focal point on the beautiful London Road campus of the University during May and June. \nMore details: Urban Room: May-June 2019
