DESCRIPTION:The Percy Ure Lecture is an annual academic highlight in the Department of Classics. This year’s lecture\, the ninth in the series\, will be delivered by Professor Lin Foxhall\, MBE (Hon.)\, FSA\, the Rathbone Professor of Ancient History and Classical Archaeology at the University of Liverpool. \nThis lecture will investigate how scholars have built narratives of the birth of the polis (city-state) from the available textual\, archaeological and landscape evidence and how the process of constructing them has continued to change. \nAdmission free.
