The Research Network was founded in 2015 to stimulate research<br \/>\ninto the history of language learning and teaching within applied linguistics internationally.<br \/>\nBuilding on several successful previous colloquia (www.hollt.net\/events.html), this<br \/>\ninternational conference aims to situate the history of language learning and teaching in the<br \/>\nwider context of multilingualism across time and space. Possible topics for contributions<br \/>\ninclude, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bi\/Multilingual dictionaries, grammars and other language-learning materials<\/li>\n<li>Language learning and teaching in multilingual communities<\/li>\n<li>Scholars of classical languages as learners of modern languages, and vice versa<\/li>\n<li>Language learning and teaching in colonial contexts<\/li>\n<li>The role of L1 in foreign language teaching<\/li>\n<li>Polyglottism in the history of language learning<\/li>\n<li>The role of translation and bilingual texts in language learning<\/li>\n<li>Non-native speaker teachers in the history of language learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All papers should be based on historical research.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to be considered for participation in the colloquium, please send your<br \/>\npresentation title, your name, email address, institutional affiliation, and a 250-word abstract<br \/>\nto <a href=\"mailto:r.mairs@reading.ac.uk\">r.mairs@reading.ac.uk<\/a> <strong>by 23 February 2018<\/strong>. Those sending proposals will be notified of<br \/>\nthe outcome as soon as possible after that date.<\/p>\n<p>Further information on conference registration for those not presenting papers will be<br \/>\ncirculated in due course.<\/p>\n<p>The event has been made possible by the generous support of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/celm\/\">Centre for Literacy and<\/a>\u00a0Multilingualism\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/classics\/\">Department of Classics<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Reading.
