On World Oceans Day, Dr Paulo Ceppi<\/strong><strong> explains that it\u2019s all down to increasingly cloudless skies over the Pacific Ocean.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dr Paulo Ceppi: cloudiness and climate change\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WX3WBVGRPDI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Dr Paulo Ceppi won the 2018 <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/the-forum\/2018\/03\/21\/global-warming-light-switch-molecules-and-malaria-early-career-researchers-net-prizes\/\">Research Outputs Prize<\/a> (Environment Theme) for this work, which the judges described as \u201cworld leading\u201d and \u201cof international significance in climate science\u201d because it lends further confidence to models used by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1073\/pnas.1714308114\">Read the full paper.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The University of Reading is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/news-and-events\/releases\/PR762869.aspx\">the most represented institution globally in the first working group of authors chosen to produce the next IPCC climate change report<\/a>, with six academics named as lead authors. Due to be completed in 2022, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/assessment-report\/ar6\/\">6<strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0Assessment Report (AR6)<\/a> brings together hundreds of experts from around the world to inform international action to mitigate climate change and reduce its damaging effects on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>Reading\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/met\/\">Department of Meteorology<\/a>\u00a0includes some of the world\u2019s leading scientists on climate change, some of whom are funded by the Met Office and National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS). The department was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/news-and-events\/releases\/PR716916.aspx\">ranked 2<strong><sup style=\"font-style: inherit\">nd<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0in the world<\/a>\u00a0for research in Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences by the Center for World University Rankings in the 2017 rankings by subject.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Global warming is accelerating as time passes.
