In this blog, Dominic Lees<\/a>, Associate Professor in Filmmaking and Specialist Advisor to the CMS Committee, shares five ways that you can get involved and support British productions.<\/em><\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=”https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=L7_9jhrUj_g”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

1) Write to your MP<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The best way to make your voice heard is to write to your local MP. Express your concern about the challenges facing the British film and TV industry \u2013 you could mention specific issues like funding cuts to the British Film Institute (BFI), the need for tax incentives, and support for cinemas. MPs are responsive to constituent concerns, especially when they receive multiple messages on the same topic. You can find your MP’s contact details<\/a> on the Parliament website.<\/p>\n

2) Visit your local cinema<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cinemas are the best places to watch films and often form a vital part of our local communities, but they are struggling and many face closure. Paying a visit to your local cinema helps to keep the film projectors running and preserve these important community spaces. Reading has a fantastic cinema<\/a>, so why not pop down this weekend and see a film? Or if you\u2019re further afield, find an independent cinema near you<\/a>!<\/p>\n

3) Watch British productions<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Whether it\u2019s in cinemas, on streaming platforms, or live TV, choosing British-made films and series helps boost their visibility, ratings and revenue. Platforms like BBC iPlayer<\/a>, Channel 4<\/a> and BFI Player<\/a> tend to highlight British content. You can also amplify British productions by following creators on social media and sharing trailers to generate buzz.<\/p>\n

4) Take a film or TV course<\/strong><\/h3>\n
