And if you enjoy the occasional visit of the beautiful Northern Lights to latitudes as low as Britain, then sorry &#8211; it&#8217;s bad news.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Owens talked about the\u00a0research in this 1-minute video:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Goodbye, Northern Lights\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2KUcKU0NF4E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Among the impacts will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Sun&#8217;s &#8216;atmosphere&#8217; &#8211; the &#8216;bubble&#8217; around the solar system created by the solar wind &#8211; will shrink by a third<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Earth&#8217;s own magnetic field will\u00a0have less to fight against, making it bigger and more stable<\/li>\n<li>Aurora &#8211; the Northern and Southern Lights &#8211; will shift towards the poles, becoming a rarity at latitudes such as Britain&#8217;s<\/li>\n<li>More cosmic radiation &#8211; particles from space caused by distant exploding stars &#8211; will reach us, especially in polar regions<\/li>\n<li>Coronal mass ejections from the Sun will become less frequent &#8211; but could be more powerful, and damaging to technology,\u00a0when they do occur.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can read the full paper in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/srep41548\">Scientific Reports here &gt;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Read the news story on the University of Reading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/news-and-events\/releases\/PR710429.aspx\">news site here &gt;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What happens to the Earth when the Sun&#8217;s activity hits a 300-year low, as is predicted in the next few decades?
