{"id":567,"date":"2017-02-22T19:42:47","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T19:42:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/the-forum\/?p=567"},"modified":"2021-11-03T14:41:13","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T14:41:13","slug":"reading-research-showcased-at-food-matters-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/2017\/02\/22\/reading-research-showcased-at-food-matters-live\/","title":{"rendered":"Reading research showcased at Food Matters Live"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Food businesses and the public were given an insight into the research capabilities of the University of Reading in agriculture, nutrition and health at the Food Matters Live 2016 exhibition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/72\/2017\/02\/FML-Stand-W.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-562 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/72\/2017\/02\/FML-Stand-W-300x177.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/72\/2017\/02\/FML-Stand-W-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/72\/2017\/02\/FML-Stand-W.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The exhibition took place\u00a0at ExCel, London, from 22 to 24 November last year.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">The event showed Reading\u2019s world-class food science facilities and research capability, while the University asked visitors to their stand to share their future food challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The University of Reading stand showcased real-world examples of its interaction with food businesses, highlighting how its research is helping to make food:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: 600;\">Healthier<\/strong> \u2013 by applying the latest nutritional science to real food and diets<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: 600;\">Safer<\/strong> \u2013 by reducing risks to consumers<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: 600;\">More economical<\/strong> \u2013 by streamlining processes and increasing revenues<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: 600;\">Better for the environment<\/strong> \u2013 by understanding the impacts of the whole food chain, from farm to fork and beyond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/72\/2017\/02\/FML-richard-bennett-W-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-571 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/72\/2017\/02\/FML-richard-bennett-W-1-300x238.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/72\/2017\/02\/FML-richard-bennett-W-1-300x238.jpg 300w, https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/72\/2017\/02\/FML-richard-bennett-W-1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Professor Richard Bennett, Research Dean for Food at the University of Reading, said: \u201cReading offers truly world-leading food science research. Our work is helping to produce sufficient healthy and nutritious food to feed a growing world population whilst safeguarding the environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best research often requires the close involvement of business.
