China was one of the centres for the origin and initial dispersal of farming lifestyles, based on the domestication of rice, millets and pigs. Professor Guiyun Jin will present new discoveries and interpretations about the transition from hunter-gatherers to Neolithic\u00a0 farmers\u00a0 in the Haidai region of northern China. She will describe new excavations and sources of data, some of it unpublished, providing insights into how farming developed and ultimately led to the rise of social complexity in the later Neolithic and beyond \u2013 the character of which will form the subject of\u00a0 her second Leverhulme Lecture in June 2019.<\/p>\n

The main lecture will be followed by a drinks reception in the Archaeology foyer, all who join us for the lecture are invited to stay for the reception.<\/p>\n
