Democratizing Culture and Building a New Consciousness: The Transformative Female Publishers of Post-Franco Spain, Dr Marta Sim\u00f3 Comas (Department of Languages and Cultures)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This presentation will provide an overview of the role played by women publishers in the post-Franco publishing industry and the way in which they engaged intellectually and politically with the profession. In particular, we will consider the cultural practices of two emblematic publishing houses founded and run by women (Rosa Reg\u00e0s\u2019 La Gaya Ciencia and Esther Tusquets\u2019 Editorial Lumen), and how these contributed both to the emergence of a new progressive and critical attitude among the public, and to the genesis of a new cultural and social paradigm.<\/p>\n

Dr Marta Sim\u00f3 Comas is lecturer in Spanish Culture in the Department of Languages and Cultures at the University of Reading.<\/p>\n
