This\u00a0workshop\u00a0is designed to make\u00a0these methods available to\u00a0researchers at Reading, including those working in other disciplines. While we imagine some participants in the workshop will be conducting research in film or television, <strong>a major ambition of the workshop is to develop the skills of\u00a0researchers in other discipline areas<\/strong>. We believe there are significant and underexplored opportunities in applying <strong>videographic\u00a0approaches to other arts and humanities subjects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><u>The workshop<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The workshop will take place in Minghella Studios, <strong>June 20th<\/strong><strong>\u00a0&#8211; 24th<\/strong>. It will involve:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>technical training in non-linear\u00a0editing and related technologies<\/li>\n<li>producing\u00a0and sharing feedback on a series of exercises in response to briefs designed to\u00a0engage with different and videographic\u00a0approaches<\/li>\n<li>discussion\u00a0of existing video essays and debates in the wider\u00a0field of videographic\u00a0scholarship<\/li>\n<li>reflection on videographic\u00a0analysis and archival material<\/li>\n<li>planning a longer audiovisual essay, with opportunities for feedback later in the vacation<\/li>\n<li>lunch and refreshments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Participants\u00a0will\u00a0nominate and\u00a0work with an item of audiovisual material or material object relevant to their\u00a0research, as a means of \u2018testing out\u2019 how to develop critical ideas through editing. <strong>No prior experience or equipment is required\u00a0<\/strong>(computers with appropriate software will be available at the workshop).<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will be led by CFAC Co-Director <strong>Adam O\u2019Brien<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>John Gibbs<\/strong>, an <a href=\"https:\/\/eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fvimeo.com%2Fprofjohngibbs&amp;data=04%7C01%7Cdonna.walton%40reading.ac.uk%7C317b6a390476416fabc708da00489aeb%7C4ffa3bc4ecfc48c09080f5e43ff90e5f%7C0%7C0%7C637822609091467434%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&amp;sdata=SLuLHIWdcZEI5Iw3UzD6nwcyp0VEDxR%2FMqjY4DYy3KE%3D&amp;reserved=0\">audiovisual essayist<\/a>\u00a0with several years\u2019 experience of teaching videographic\u00a0criticism.
