{"id":23785,"date":"2022-03-24T11:37:55","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T11:37:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=23785"},"modified":"2022-03-24T11:37:55","modified_gmt":"2022-03-24T11:37:55","slug":"women-in-mathematics-day","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/event\/women-in-mathematics-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Women in Mathematics Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>11 May 2022,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Edith Morley Van Emden Theatre,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>University of Reading<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To coincide with the <strong>International Celebration of Women in Mathematics<\/strong>, <strong>the London Mathematical Society,<\/strong> and the Mathematics of Planet Earth Centre for Doctoral Training, and University of Reading present a day with invited guest speakers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/reneehoekzema.nl\/\"><strong>Renee Hoekzema<\/strong><\/a> (Postdoctoral Researcher, Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bas.ac.uk\/profile\/hlu\/\"><strong>Hua Lu<\/strong><\/a> (Research Scientist, Atmosphere Ice and Climate, the British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/research-information.bris.ac.uk\/en\/persons\/celine-maistret\"><strong>Celine Maistret<\/strong><\/a> (Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow, School of Mathematics, University of Bristol)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/people\/a.veraart\"><strong>Almut Veraart<\/strong><\/a> (Professor of Statistics, Imperial College London)<\/li>\n<li>plus posters and talks from Early Career Mathematicians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The hosts of the meeting are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.numerical.rl.ac.uk\/people\/j_scott\/\">Jennifer Scott<\/a>\u00a0(Professor of Mathematics at University of Reading and Director at Reading, the Mathematics of Planet Earth Centre for Doctoral Training); and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/racheldominica.wordpress.com\/\">Rachel Newton<\/a>\u00a0(Reader in Number Theory and Future Leaders Fellow, King\u2019s College London).<\/p>\n<p>This celebration of Women in Mathematics event is sponsored by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lms.ac.uk\/\">London Mathematical Society<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mpecdt.ac.uk\/\">EPSRC Mathematics of Planet Earth Centre for Doctoral Training<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is a hybrid event (in person and online) with all contributed talks and posters in person.<\/p>\n<p>Although celebrating Women in Mathematics,\u00a0<strong>EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND<\/strong>\u00a0(including undergraduate students) and the talks will be aimed at those with an interest in mathematics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Call for Abstracts from Early Career Mathematicians<\/strong>\u00a0who would like to give a talk or poster\u00a0is now open and will close on midnight 24 April. To apply, complete the relevant section during registration and include an abstract of approximately one paragraph. <strong>Small travel bursaries<\/strong> will be available to those in need of support.
