{"id":25565,"date":"2022-11-24T13:36:40","date_gmt":"2022-11-24T13:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=25565"},"modified":"2022-11-28T16:13:50","modified_gmt":"2022-11-28T16:13:50","slug":"visiting-filmmaker-peter-treherne","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/event\/visiting-filmmaker-peter-treherne\/","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Filmmaker: Peter Treherne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TUE DEC 6<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0(Wk11) \/ 3pm \/ Bob Kayley Theatre<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CFAC is building a partnership with\u00a0the filmmaker\u00a0Peter\u00a0Treherne, who\u00a0has recently secured Arts Council funding for a wonderfully ambitious\u00a0feature film,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matterofbritain.org\/\">Matter of Britain.<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>The project also builds on a collaboration with The Museum of English Rural Life, part of the University of Reading&#8217;s Museums and Special Collections Services.<\/p>\n<p>Treherne will come and talk with us about his project \u2013 his inspirations and creative ambitions, and his plans for engaging a village community in the trials and tribulations of film production.<\/p>\n<p>All welcome. No booking required.<\/p>\n<p><em>Matter of Britain<\/em>\u00a0is a co-creative film that performs the Quest for the Holy Grail with the community of Mayfield, East Sussex. In the Arthurian myths, knights seek the Grail in the hope of restoring their land which has been laid waste by human greed and violence. This waste land serves as a metaphor for the climate crisis and so the film\/quest becomes a means through which the people of Mayfield can express their ecological concerns and connect with the agricultural landscape of the High Weald.<\/p>\n<p>The script, based on Sir Thomas Mallory\u2019s 1470\u00a0<em>Le Morte Darthur<\/em>, was developed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.petertreherne.com\/\">Peter Treherne<\/a>\u00a0with the support of an Arts Council of England Project Grant. Production will take place on farmland around Mayfield between January 2023 and January 2024.
