Beckett\u2019s work has inspired many contemporary visual artists, but in recent years it has been the area of artists\u2019 film that has seen the clearest impact.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0Friday 23rd<\/sup>\u00a0of June<\/strong>\u00a02023,<\/strong>\u00a0The Samuel Beckett Research Centre at the University of Reading will present rarely screened work by several artists. The screenings will be followed by a roundtable discussion and the launch of\u00a0Samuel Beckett\u2019s Afterlives: Adaptation, Remediation, Appropriation<\/em>, the recent collection of essays edited by Jonathan Bignell, Anna McMullan and Pim Verhulst.<\/p>\n

Stan Douglas\u2019 video installation<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/b>Vid\u00e9o<\/span><\/i>\u202f<\/span><\/b>is a reimagining of both Orson Welles\u2019s film\u202f<\/span>\u201cThe Trial\u201d<\/span>\u202f(based on Kafka\u2019s novel of the same name) and Beckett\u2019s film\u202f<\/span>\u201cFilm\u201d<\/span>.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

John Gerrard<\/span><\/b>, Bone Work (Gulf of Mexico)<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0(2022):\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Introduced by John Gerrard (Via Zoom).\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

John Gerrard\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Bone Work (Gulf of Mexico)<\/span><\/i>\u00a0is a simulation centred on sixteen fragments of dead coral found by the artist on the shores of the Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula on the Gulf Of Mexico.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Duncan Campbell,\u00a0<\/span><\/b>o Joan, no\u2026<\/span><\/i><\/b>(2006): Introduced by Duncan Campbell.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Duncan Campbell\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>o Joan, no\u2026<\/span><\/i>(2006) is a short film drawing on the lighting directions and effects in Beckett\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Play<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The screenings will begin at 2:30pm in Minghella Studios\u2019s cinema at the University of Reading, with the roundtable discussion beginning at 4:30pm.<\/span>\u00a0The event will be followed by a reception at 6:00pm.<\/span><\/p>\n
