{"id":29622,"date":"2024-06-27T14:06:57","date_gmt":"2024-06-27T13:06:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=29622"},"modified":"2024-06-27T14:06:57","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T13:06:57","slug":"my-climate-risk-seminar","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/research-blog\/event\/my-climate-risk-seminar\/","title":{"rendered":"My Climate Risk seminar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]For the last summer session of the<strong> \u201cMy Climate Risk Interdisciplinary Learning Group\u201d (MCRILG)<\/strong>,\u00a0we are delighted to be joined by <strong>Dr Masilin Gudoshava<\/strong>, Climate Modeling Expert at the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) in Nairobi, Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>Masilin\u2019s work focuses on sub-seasonal to seasonal forecasting, and her interest is in producing tailored forecasts that cater to the specific needs of various climate-sensitive sectors, such as agriculture, health and disaster management. Her role also involves collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that the forecasts are practical, relevant, and effectively utilized<\/p>\n<p>Masilin will discuss with us the <strong>importance of understanding the behaviour of rainy seasons, especially onset, for informed decision-making<\/strong>. She will introduce us to the behaviour and change of \u201cKiremt\u201d rainy season in drought-prone Ethiopia, through the paper <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s00703-005-0127-x\">\u201cCharacterization and variability of Kiremt rainy season over Ethiopia\u201d.<\/a> Masilin\u2019s extensive experience in producing forecasts and communicating them to countries and communities provides a great opportunity to ask her questions also on her work more generally.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to seeing you on <strong>Monday 8<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0July at 1pm BST (GMT+1)<\/strong> to learn more about this!
