{"id":1194,"date":"2020-10-15T15:06:57","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T14:06:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/sbe-news-and-events\/?p=1194"},"modified":"2020-10-15T15:06:57","modified_gmt":"2020-10-15T14:06:57","slug":"flexibility-reading-room-on-seasonality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.reading.ac.uk\/sbe-news-and-events\/flexibility-reading-room-on-seasonality\/","title":{"rendered":"Flexibility Reading Room on Seasonality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Flexibility Reading Room was held on the 1st October 2020 and did not actually read anything on seasonality (partly because we could not find anything suitable.\u00a0 If anyone out there has any suggestions, do let us know).\u00a0 Instead we had four short presentations on the topic; one from Mikko Jalas on infrastructures, variations in demand and the \u2018shadowy\u2019 sides of these arrangements; one from Elizabeth Shove, who did a quick summary of what seem to be relevant ideas from Marcel Mauss\u2019 work on seasonality amongst the Eskimos; Dale Southerton and Jen Whillans on looking for seasonal variations in UK time use data and Jacopo Torriti, taking a similar approach to energy and time use data.<\/p>\n<p>We then went around the \u2018room\u2019 which was quite crowded \u2013 some 18 people, from a splendid range of different disciplines and countries.
