As East Asian cultures become a global force, it is increasingly important to understand the ways in which they blend, interact or clash with other cultures across the world. Within this context, the notions of \u2018intermediality\u2019 and \u2018interarts\u2019 are emerging fields of scholarship that function across disciplines in the humanities and seem ideally poised to evaluate the social and cultural practices involving the local and the global.Generously supported by the British Council through the UK-China Humanities Alliance, this one-day workshop aims to foster a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary dialogue on film, literature, theatre and television in China.<\/p>\n

This workshop will include several guest speakers from China and the UK and two film screenings. Pioneer Chinese independent documentary filmmaker Wu Wenguang and Mengqi Zhang will also be present to deliver a lecture-performance and discuss their most recent films produced for the \u2018Folk Memory Project\u2019, a Beijing-based Caochangdi Workstation collective.<\/p>\n
