We are a group of around 15 postdoctoral researchers at the University of Reading (led by Professor Tom Oliver). Our aim is to improve the environment and people's quality of life by providing solutions to environmental problems, developing new quantitative methodologies and decision support tools. We recognise the key importance of social and political processes that underpin drivers of changes in environmental systems.
Social ecology is about going beyond the traditional boundaries of ecology bringing in other disciplines such as psychology, sociology and ethics.
For examples of bringing social sciences into ecology see short articles here, or The Self Delusion book.
For members of the research group see here and examples of the methods we develop see here.
For more on values in ecology see the Slow Ecology pages.
