Introduction
This workshop has two aims:
(1) Provide — for a wide audience in arithmetic geometry — an overview of the André-Oort conjecture and the ideas that have led to its proof via the Pila-Zannier strategy.
(2) Explore in depth — for specialists in the area — the new ideas appearing in the recent papers of Pila-Shankar-Tsimerman-Esnault-Groechenig and Binyamini-Schmidt-Yafaev.
It is organised by Christopher Daw (University of Reading) and Andrei Yafaev (University College London), with generous support from all of the speakers.
