Research Themes

University of Reading research is divided into four broad themes: Agriculture, Food and Health; Environment; Heritage and Creativity; and Prosperity and Resilience. The themes are open-ended and overlapping, crossing traditional boundaries and allowing us to nurture innovation and deliver impactful and curiosity-driven research. Under these themes sit our research divisions.

The NHM ten research themes provide a focus for our work so we can find solutions to some of the biggest global challenges: Biodiversity and health; Biodiversity change; Collections and culture; Community science; Digital, data and informatics; Evolution of planets and life; Genomics; Phenomics and advanced analysis; Resourcing the green economy; UK nature recovery
From tackling climate change and meeting the mineral needs of a net zero world to restoring biodiversity and achieving food security, our research and collections offer insight into how we create a brighter future for both people and the planet.
