Our Publications

The project began in October 2023 and is set to run until the end of September 2026. As part of our work, we’re planning to present at four conferences, write and submit three journal articles as well as a monograph. Within the team, we are currently working on our first journal article and on our first few conference presentations which are partly also planned as steps towards further publications.

In December 2024, PDRA Dr Pia Schmüser presented first results from her analyses of German 1950s diaries at an international and interdisciplinary conference Silence in Analogue and Digital Communication in Western Modernity. Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Its Variety and Change. The conference was co-organised by a team including Prof Jung and Prof Schroeter and took place at the Martin Luther Universität Halle-Wittenberg.

Dr Schmüser and Prof Schroeter are going to present first results from the analyses of metacommunicative comments pertaining to communicative constraints in the 1840s and 1950s, with a view on change at the Arbeitstreffen linguistische Pragmatik in March 2025 in Mainz, Germany.

Dr Schmüser and Prof Jung are going to present the project and first results from our analyses at the conference Egodocuments from Medieval Codex to Modern Media: Narratives, Presentations, Identities which in April 2025 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Prof Schroeter is going to present results pertaining to changes in the practice of diary writing and in the use of the diary as a communicative affordance at the Historical Sociolinguistics Network conference in May 2025 in Bristol, UK.
