Multi-stakeholder engagement with NGOs, charities, the public and private sectors is essential to addressing women’s underrepresentation in research, policymaking, and leadership for climate action. By bringing together diverse actors, this project seeks to drive systemic change, ensuring that women’s voices shape climate strategies at all levels.
Charities play a particularly vital role in this ecosystem, working at the grassroots level to support women through education, healthcare, and income-generating opportunities. These efforts empower women to become active participants in climate resilience, equipping them with the skills and resources needed to influence decision-making processes. By integrating charity-led community work with institutional policymaking and research in Higher Education, this project can create a more inclusive and effective approach to tackling climate challenges, ensuring that women’s leadership is not only recognised but actively cultivated with local partners.
One Charity is the Nasio Trust, which provides education, healthcare and opportunities for income generation to create sustainable communities in western Kenya. This July, the Nasio Trust is hosting a Teachers Volunteering Trip, aimed at fostering a collaboration between teachers from Kenya, the UK, and Brazil. This is an exciting opportunity and experience for those actively teaching or those engaged in developing new pedagogies and would like to experience teaching in Kenya.
