Alice Savoie has been invited to present our Women in Type research as a keynote speaker in Paris at Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) on 20 January 2021, as part of the symposium ‘Aux marges de l’imprimé: cultures populaires, minoritaires & alternatives de l’imprimé’. She will also discuss the Women in Type research as part of a talk to students at the University for Art & Design Offenbach, Germany on 3 February 2021 and again on 23 March as part of the Practica Program, a 14-week online course for learning type design run by type designers Nicole Dotin and Sol Matas.
Publications
Alice’s article ‘The women behind Times New Roman’ has now been published by Journal of Design History as part of their volume 33, Issue 3 (September 2020). The article is accessible online and the printed issue should soon be available for purchase from the Journal of Design History website.
Ou team is also very pleased to announce that Princeton Architectural Press will soon publish a book featuring a series of essays on the contribution of women to the graphic industry, including a chapter by Prof. Fiona Ross & Dr. Alice Savoie on the contribution of type drawing offices to twentieth century type-making. The book, entitled They were there too! is edited by Briar Levit and is due to come out in 2021.
