RRC 5.10.1.1 update
The software on the research cloud management system has been upgraded to 5.10.1.1. This should mean that Vitual Machine resource are correctly returned to the project quota when the VMs are deleted in the calm service...
RRC Scale Out
The management system for the research cloud has beened "scaled out" from 1 node to 3 nodes. This should improve performance and reliablity as well as allowing future updates to be applied without service interruption....
NX 6.4.6 Update
The NX system which is part of the Managed Desktop Service has been updated to use version 6.4.6 and updates applied to the Ubuntu Operating System on the session nodes (nxnode1-nxnode4)....
Cronjobs on the Academic Computing Cluster
A dedicated Virtual Machine (VM) is now provided to run cronjobs on the Academic Computing cluster. See: Academic Computing Cluster User’s Guide and Cronjobs on the Academic Computing Cluster.
Please note, to be able to connect to the cronjob node directly you need to connect to cluster.act.rdg.ac.uk first, just once. This will register you account as a RACC user....
Free Cluster launched: named RACC
The Reading Academic Computing Cluster (RACC) is now officially available to all users.
This service will rapidly replace the met-cluster, so users are advised to switch all their codes to the new cluster.
The use of RACC is free.

New Home Directories
On Tuesday the 5th of June the Academic Computing team will be migrating all Unix home directories to a new location to offer greater performance and scalability.
As standard all users including staff and students will have a default quota of 10GB and this can be increased with a simple request via the IT Service Desk.
To help with the transition we will be mounting the new home directories under their new home under /home/users/%username%.
On the 5th of June we will need to take all Unix Systems offline to mount the new home directories and complete some migration tasks.

short network outage in Meteorology on 20th March 2018
Essential work needs to be performed on a core networking device.
Due to this, users within the Meteorology building and IT/Maths will see an outage at roughly 18:05 on the 20th March, lasting up to 10 minutes.
Please log out by 6pm on Tuesday evening to avoid data loss, as home directories will not be available during the network downtime.
Please contact IT through the usual channels in case of any problems....
