Research Data Storage

Information about the Research Data Storage service can be found on the DTS Research Data Storage service website.

The Research Data Storage prices which have been previously published on TopDesk (which is now decommissioned) are as follows:

Service Options: 

• The service is chargeable in advance based on the service tier, amount and duration
  • Charges will be made as soon as the requested storage has been delivered

Cost: 

Standard 

Snapshots: Yes¹ – maximum of 2 weeks 
Off-site Backups²: No 
Suggested Use: For research data to be used with computing platforms or fast access via desktops – part of the Research Cloud. 
Cost TB per year: £195 

Protected 

Snapshots: Yes¹ – maximum of 2 weeks
Off-site Backups²: Yes – maximum of 3 months 
Suggested Use: For research data where additional recovery options are required.
Data Protection: Two copies stored in two locations, with offsite cloud backup
Cost TB per year: £295

Offline Archive 
Suggested Use: For research data that needs to be retained but does not need to be accessed at present, can be restored for access to a Standard or Protected share on request. 
Cost TB per year: £25

¹ Snapshots: provides protection against accidental deletion or overwriting of data, allowing user to restore files from up to two weeks ago. This provides convenient, quick recovery from accidental deletion and a good levelof data integrity for most classes of data but won’t fully protect against data loss. The number and period of snapshots retained depends on the volatility of your data (maximum of 2 weeks). 
² Off-site Backups: provides protection against accidental deletion or overwriting of data, allowing user to restore files from a maximum of two weeks ago. Backups are encrypted and stored in cloud data centres within the EU.
