The time-consuming nature of current methods for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) detection increases the need for faster, easy and portable technologies to guide mastitis treatment and surveillance. On-farm rapid testing can guide antibiotic selection, reducing the misuse that contributes to resistance. We identify the challenges that arise when developing miniaturised antibiotic susceptibility tests (ASTs).
